I’ve thought about whether to be a local or OTR driver…..and as I no family yet of my own, financially, it would be ideal to be an OTR driver, as to cut down on unnecessary bills at home. And I’ll talk to the more experienced and see if I want to eventually become an owner-operator…..and I’m sure it all depends on the company you drive for also, if it makes it worthwhile.
Seems there are benefits to both being a company driver and an owner-operator. And the fact that what you can haul can affect your salary is a plus also. Definitely looks promising.
I have been an owner-operator for about 5 years now….the money is very good. Just make sure you pay your taxes on time, so you aren’t penalized. And keep up on maintaining your rig and you’re good to go. It’s an investment, like anything else. And with a good accountant that you stay in touch with, though you do pay everything, you can see some good revenue come in. But, it’s also not bad to start as a company driver and see what works best for you.
